Supporting your Child

What Do We Read?

Partnership with parents is key to our success and we work hard to ensure that this partnership is as effective as possible. Reading at home with and to your child is perhaps the best way you can support their early education. Recent research by the National Literacy Trust reveals that children who read outside of school daily are 13 times more likely to read above the expected level for their age. We use the 'Twinkl Phonics Scheme', and a range of 'Oxford Reading Tree' scheme materials to teach early reading and children then progress on to the 'Bug Club' scheme and a large choice of banded books to promote reading for enjoyment.

We are very luck in the Fens community to have a dedicated group of parents and grandparents who regularly support us by coming into school each day to listen to our children read. Their contribution is invaluable and we thank them very much for their support.

Reading Stamps

Our children are on the hunt for reading stamps in their Home Reading Diary. Through our promotion of reading we are asking our children to read at home independently or to an adult and have their reading diary signed. Stamps are then added up and the children receive a raffle ticket, which are added to a class draw for the end of term.

So in the words of Strictly Come Dancing .......... ‘Keep Reading!’

EYFS and KS1

In school we promote a ‘love of reading’ with your child and we are hoping you can support us with this at home. Children will begin to bring home a self-selected book from our Lending Library.

Reading Partners

Our Reading Partners are now up and running in school and it has been lovely to see family members from across school listening to our children read. If you would like to volunteer your time to support our children; please contact Mrs Keen via the school office.
