Welcome to the Fens Primary School Maths page.

First, a little trick:

  • Write down any three digits from 1 to 9
  • Use the digits to make all the six possible two-digit numbers and add them up.
  • Divide your answer by the sum of the three digits you chose to start with.
  • Your answer will be 22. Promise!

Mathematics is all about patterns and relationships, making tricks like this one possible. At Fens, we understand the importance of equipping children with the knowledge and understanding to make sense of these patterns in order to become confident, fluent mathematicians.

Maths plays such an important role in business and wider society and, for this reason, children learn to tackle ‘real world’ situations involving mathematics early in order to equip them successfully with the skills they need for later life.

‘Businesses know the importance of numeracy, and there is no doubt that being numerate and understanding how and when to use maths is crucial to being able to function effectively at work and in everyday life.’

Year 1 Number Fun

Year Four Fractions Investigation

Children in Y4 visited a sweetshop in our Bousefield Learning Suite. They investigated finding fractions of amounts of sweets. Children had to count the sweets before solving different challenges to practise their fraction skills.

Sorting Multiples

Children in Year Five worked hard to sort multiples into a venn diagram.

Can you solve the puzzle?
