Year 6 Home Learning

YEAR 6 HOME LEARNING UPDATED 29/06/2020

Dear Parents, Carers and Year 6 Pupils,

As the Summer term continues, we would like to give children, continuing their home learning journey, the opportunity to complete the same work as the children returning to school.

The aims of the work over the next few weeks will be to:

  • Re-establish routines that will prepare children for secondary school
  • Revise key concepts so that children can 'hit the ground running' in September

As well as making use of our email system, we will post daily English, Maths and Afternoon work in the grids below with direct links to resources. The children can let us know how they get on through email.

We appreciate that this more structured approach may take some readjusting to, so please be reassured that we will all work together to prepare the children for their transition to secondary school, one step at a time.

The links to daily online lessons below will continue as well as links to Espresso to give the children freedom to explore areas of interest if they wish - they can also let us know the areas of learning that they are enjoying most.

We hope you and the children continue to find this page useful,

Thank you again,

The Year 6 Team

SPELLING - Updated 01/06/2020

Below are the Year 3 & Year 4 AND the Year 5 & Year 6 spelling lists for revising before secondary school. There is also a list of related activities to help with practising. You could have a go at one activity a day which should only take 5-10 minutes. Learning and revising spellings each day in 'short bursts' is a proven effective strategy.

Espresso Suggestions **New This Week**

  • Science: Beyond Planet Earth - Inspired by last week's SPACE X shuttle launch, we would like you to take a tour of the universe through this Espresso module. You could use recycled materials to make your own space shuttle, moon buggy or space station. Then create a front page for a newspaper. Use your creativity to share any information you learn about the universe and the SPACE X mission. Enjoy!

  • History: Mayan Civilization - Refresh your learning around the Mayans. You could complete a history fact file to teach a family member. Enjoy creating some Mayan artwork. Why not write a Newspaper article about a key event from Mayan times? Design a Mayan Timeline to help you teach others. Work through the learning module on Espresso and get your creativity flowing!
