Activemark Gold Award

Fens School is very proud to announce their Activemark Gold Award 2016.

The School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme used to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.

All of our KS2 children were involved in sporting competitions within school throughout the year 2015-2016 with a high percentage of children also representing the school and cluster group. Some of our children even went on to represent the town. We are delighted with the Gold Award which acknowledges the hard work, commitment and dedication to PE and school sport of the staff and pupils at Fens. Well done everyone!

Skipping Demonstration

During the last week of January we had a visit from Mr Skippy! He worked alongside some of our Y5 pupils, teaching them a range of skipping skills.  At the end of the afternoon the Y5 children put on a fantastic skipping demonstration for the whole school.  The demonstration was enjoyed by all and now the whole school is skipping in preparation for the British Heart Foundation Sponsored Skip event which is to be held on Friday February 12 January.

The British Judo Association

Ian, from The British Judo Association visited Fens School last week to work with our KS2 children. Classes took it in turns to try out some simple Judo skills. By the end of the session, some of our smaller chidlren were seen to throw Ian over their shoulder! Everyone enjoyed the visit and some of our chidlren are hoping to join local Judo clubs. Thank you to Ian and The British Judo Association for giving up their time to visit our school.

Judo

Zumba

We are always looking for ways to keep fit and healthy at Fens. Over the course of the year our pupils will be introduced to different types of exercise and alternative ways to keep fit. This year we intend to focus on Zumba activities which can be enjoyed by everyone.  Working closely with Manor College we hope to involve lots of our Key Stage Two pupils in Zumba afternoons! Back in November, twenty of our Y6 pupils took part in Zumba activities alongside pupils from other primary schools in the cluster.  Then, recently we took thirty Y5 pupils to enjoy a similar afternoon. Feedback from the children and staff has been very positive and it is hoped that pupils take this interest further by joining local classes in the area.

Achievement Awards

Last month the whole school gathered together for our annual Achievement Award Assembly.  Guests included staff from Manor PE department and some of our ex- pupils.  Awards were given for continuous hard work to one pupil in each year group. Subject awards were then presented to children in Y6.  The sports awards recognised pupils with outstanding ability and superb sporting attitude with the team of the year award going to the Y6 boys football team.  Finally the Bill Ogden Shield was awarded for good citizenship. It was a wonderful occasion and enjoyed by all.

Sports Day

One sunny afternoon in the beginning of July the whole school enjoyed their annual sports day.  Parents, pupils and teachers cheered competitors as they took part in a variety of races.  Every pupil from Reception to Year Six was involved and received stickers to acknowledge their success. We even had parents racing and were very impressed with their sporting ability!  The afternoon went smoothly; this was down to the hard work of some our Year Four pupils who were designated monitors for the afternoon.  They had practised hard on the run up to Sports Day and knew exactly what was expected of them.  They certainly delivered on the day and did the whole school proud. One of our parents was so impressed with their dedication and commitment that he decided to present the school with a silver ‘Olympic Games Relay Games Maker Baton.’  The children were presented with the baton in assembly last week and it is now on show in our entrance hall.
