School Games Day 2019

School Games Day 2019

Just before the half term holiday our Key Stage Two pupils were involved in the annual School Games Day. The day was a full day of sporting competition with everyone involved. Children from different classes and year groups joined together in teams to compete in a wide range of sports. Y5/6 pupils played football, tag rugby, basketball and cricket while Y3/4 pupils played tennis, netball, dodgeball, football and rounders.  Our young leaders were fantastic as they helped to organize games, equipment and referee matches. Well done and thank you to everyone who made School Games Day 2019 a great success!

Y4 Visit from Football Referee
Sports Crew Training

Fens Sports Crew

Towards the end of December a group of Y6 children were chosen to take part in a leadership workshop at Manor College.  Our children, along with pupils from other schools in the cluster, spent the afternoon learning how to lead a range of sports activities.    These children are now our new sports crew for this school year and are looking forward to working with the younger children, organising games in the playground,  helping out at after school clubs and supporting teachers in the organisation of competitive events.

Graeme Storm, Professional Golfer Visit

Graeme Storm, Professional Golfer

This morning some of our pupils in Y5 & 6 were in for a special treat as we had a visit from professional golfer Graeme Storm.  Graeme worked through lots of different golfing activities with the children throughout the morning and then shared some of his experiences of working as a professional in the sporting world. The children thoroughly enjoyed the morning and we thank Graeme for giving up his time to visit our school.

School Partnership Award 2018

Fens School Win School Partnership Award

We are very proud to announce that the school has won another award. This year Nouveau Wellbeing celebrates their 10th Anniversary and as part of their celebrations the company held a special awards evening at The Hardwick Hall in Sedgefield, at which we were delighted to learn that Fens was one of the nominees from amongst their many associates. We were finalists in the School Partnership Category and were up against schools from Durham and Stockton.  When we were announced as winners we were absolutely delighted.  This award is special for us as it was not something we applied for but was in fact in recognition of our hard work, strong links with the company and most of all our outstanding pupils.

We thank Nouveau Wellbeing for the award and congratulate them on ten successful years. We look forward very much to continuing our work with them.

Gold Active Mark Award 2018

School Games Day 2018

We value PE at Fens! Staff and pupils work hard to widen the appeal of sport to all pupils regardless of their sporting abilities.

Within the PE Curriculum we aim to provide the children with the opportunity to enjoy and develop skills in games, dance, gymnastics, athletics, swimming and outdoor activities. The children are also given the opportunity to further develop these skills in a variety of lunchtime and after school sports clubs.

We aim to raise pupils’ awareness of health and safety in PE and the wearing of a specified kit is encouraged at all times - black shorts, white t-shirt and a change of footwear.

Throughout the year our PE curriculum is supported by coaches from local clubs as well as staff from Manor College.

Each year pupils from Y6 enjoy a 3 day residential experience at Robinwood in Alston, Cumbria.  During their stay, they have the opportunity to take part in orienteering, mountain biking, abseiling and team building activities, whilst our Y5 pupils are given the opportunity to attend a weekend residential at Carlton Outdoor Centre near Stokesley.

We love to get involved with competitive sport and our many teams represent the school at festivals in football, high five netball, tag rugby, kwik cricket, athletics, swimming, tennis, basketball and cross country.

Activemark Gold Award

Again, we are proud to receive the Active Gold Award 2017 as an acknowledgment of our commitment to PE and School Sport.

The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme used to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.

Last year, all of our KS2 children were involved in sporting competitions within school. A high percentage of children represented the school and cluster group in competitions across the town, while some children went on to represent the town at district level.

We are delighted with the 'Gold Award' and will continue with our hard work, commitment and dedication to PE and school sport.

Achievement Awards 2017

A few weeks ago saw a very important day in the school calendar for staff, pupils and members of our school community as together we proudly acknowledged many of the fantastic pupils we have at Fens.

The first Sports Awards were presented back in 2005 when the school

celebrated its 40th anniversary. Then the awards were introduced in order to raise the profile of PE at Fens. The year group awards have been running for the last 9 years and it was the 24th time that the Bill Ogden Award had been presented to one of our pupils.

Sports Awards were presented for Best Sporting Attitiude, Sports in the Community, Sports Personality of the Year and Governors Award for Sport.

It was a very enjoyable morning as parents, guests, governors, staff and pupils applauded the winners and shared photographs from the school year.

School Games Day

On Friday 16th June all of our KS2 pupils were involved in a day of team sports competition.  Competitions were held in Football for both girls and boys, Tag Rugby, Cricket, Tennis, Volleyball, Dodgeball and Rounders. Children were given the choice of sport and were then organised into teams. Pupils in Years 5 and 6 played their competition in the morning with Years 3 and 4 taking part in the afternoon. This competitive challenge day was a culmination of the PE curriculum over the past year and it was fabulous to see the children showing off their skills and enjoying the camaraderie of their team mates whilst competing. A huge thank you to our sports crew for helping to organise the event, as well as referee and keep score throughout the day. Well done everyone!

During the last week of January we had a visit from Mr Skippy! He worked alongside some of our Y5 pupils, teaching them a range of skipping skills.  At the end of the afternoon the Y5 children put on a fantastic skipping demonstration for the whole school.  The demonstration was enjoyed by all and now the whole school is skipping in preparation for the British Heart Foundation Sponsored Skip event which is to be held on Friday February 12 January.
