SCIENCE WEEK 2019

Continuing our tradition of beginning Science Week with a few fizzes and bangs, representatives from Mr Bryson's class demonstrated some 'hands on' science for the entire school.

RECEPTION'S LIVING EGG HATCHING RESPONSIBILITY

Our Responsible Reception children had the special job of welcoming the Living Eggs hatching programme into their classrooms. They helped set up the incubator, carefeully observed the eggs and became proud parents of 10 chicks!

YEAR 1 MAGNETISM INVESTIGATIONS

Year 1 children worked in teams, using their growing knowledge to investigate how magnets work.

YEAR 2 - HABITAT HUNTING AND HELPING

Our Year 2 children have enjoyed learning all about habitats this week. They spent time in our school wildlife garden taking part in a 'bug hunt' and thought about how they could improve this habitat for the creatures that live there. Back in the classroom, they created bird feeders to place around our school outdoor areas. They are hoping for lots of birds to visit!

YEAR 3 - ANIMAL STORY WORKSHOP
The children in Year 3 enjoyed learning about a range of animals and their habitats during their Animal Story workshop.
YEAR 4 - ELECTRICITY IN ACTION
Year 4 children applied their knowledge of electrical circuits to create a range of different products including games.
YEAR 5 - SOLAR SYSTEM CHALLENGE IN OUR BOUSFIELD SUITE
Working scientifically, our Year 5 astronomers worked together to follow instructions when weighing modelling dough and creating a scaled model of our solar system. They had to assign roles, use their equipment accurately and agree upon the correct mass of each planet. Take a look at their results.
YEAR 6 - CSI FENS
There was a crime scene investigation taking place in Year 6 this week. Who was behind poor Humpty Dumpty's accident? Science was the key to unlocking this mystery!
YEAR 3 & YEAR 4 - EGG DROP CHALLENGE IN THE BOUSFIELD LEARNING SUITE
All of the children in Year 3 and Year 4 were able to extend their science beyond the classroom in our multimedia suite. Following a challenge set by Professor Brainpop, the children had to work together in teams to apply their knowledge of materials, with the aim of reducing the damage to their egg.
YEAR 5 & YEAR 6 - THE SOLAR SYSTEM CHALLENGE
Year 5 and Year 6 children all got the opportunity to experience science in our Bousfield Learning Suite. They were challenged to make scale models of the planets using their measuring skills.
FRIDAY SHOWCASE FOR THE WHOLE SCHOOL COMMUNITY
Science Week 2015 culminated in a wealth of science experiences being shared with members from across our school community. Children, staff, parents and governors joined together to discuss the many enriching activities that had taken place.
Science Club

Skeletons

This week in Science Club, we have been using a range of resources to help us develop our understanding of Skeletons. We used a skeleton floor puzzle, a DIY model skeleton, dog biscuits (in the shape of bones) as well as online resources.
